I'll never forget Lewis's team telling the referee in the dressing room before the fight that Holyfield wore his cup really high around his waist to minimize body shot damage. • East Side Boxing Forum > Boxing > General Boxing Forum Best cherry pickers of all time Heavy-Wait Chumps; Tua Much Rust Takes the Fight Out of Today's Top Ranked Contenders By Wallace Matthews New York Post November 17 2000 5:00 AM NOT long after knocking out Hasim Rahman on Dec. 19, 1998, David Tua became the No. 1 contender in the WBC’s heavyweight division. Over the next 692 days - until Nov. 11, 2000, the day he finally got his title shot against Lennox Lewis - Tua fought a total of seven rounds. His fighting weight ballooned from 224 to 253 and settled back to 245 for the Lewis fight. The whole thing is a scam, designed to suck the public into buying what it thinks will be a competitive fight, based on the playing-up of phonied-up records and the obscuring of the reality of a fighter’s preparedness. Only their hand-picked and carefully protected “star” matters

    • East Side Boxing Forum > Boxing > General Boxing Forum Best cherry pickers of all time Lewis Stars in Poor off Broadway Show May 01 2000 12:11 AM Paul Hayward Daily Telegraph, London. THE `White Buffalo' has been summoned from the plains of South Africa as Lennox Lewis' career threatens to descend into a `bum of the month' campaign. Saturday's Lewis-Michael Grant fight at Madison Square Garden was certainly one of those events that make you wonder whether boxing can continue to enthral worldwide audiences in the dot.com age. The reality of Saturday was that Grant, who had only 12 amateur fights and 31 low-grade professional ones behind him, turned out to be hopelessly out of his depth. It was clever match-making, and we in the media are culpable for not questioning Grant's credentials more searchingly. Grant was an off-Broadway fighter rushed up the line to give him a lucrative pay-day before a lesser opponent knocked him out and destroyed his mystique.

    • @The Information Bomber East Side Boxing Forum > Boxing > General Boxing Forum Why Do Lennox Lewis fans Deny, Lie and Distort Information? OCT 28, 1991 Sports Illustrated Vault THE CHAMP WHO FIGHTS CHUMPS PAT PUTNAM Lewis's victim that night, his 16th in a row as a pro, was Mike Weaver, the former WBA heavyweight champ, a grandfather and still fighting at 39, because, says his manager, Don Manuel, "he needs the money. I could get him a real job, but he doesn't want to work." It's apparent that after being knocked out by Lewis in the sixth round of their bout, Weaver should rethink his job options. He is fighting guys like Weaver and like Glenn McCrory, the former cruiserweight champ whom he outweighed by 10 pounds and knocked out on Sept. 30 in London. Worse, Weaver and McCrory were, in all probability, Lewis's toughest opponents Lewis may be Great Britain's latest hope for a heavyweight champion, but as a professional he has been dining on tomato cans named Noel Quarless, Jorge Dascola and Jean Chanet The Weaver fight provided a glimpse of where Lewis stands and where he might be headed-even though it was Weaver's first bout in a year, he hadn't beaten a name fighter since 1981 and that one's name was James (Quick) Tillis. Tyrell Biggs may be next. Also, Frank Bruno has just been cleared by the British Boxing Board for a comeback. "To be taken seriously, he has to go in against me," says Lewis. "If he doesn't, he has no hope of going anywhere in boxing again." That certainly seems true. Those nervous money men across the pond have even been heard to mutter, "Holyfield" and "Tyson." Dear, dear, dear. If that lot has its way, forget the Queen; God save Lennox Lewis.

    • No he isn't, he only ever faced 3 Hall Of Fame heavyweights (1.) A 37 Year Old Evander Holyfield (Born 1962) in 1999 😃, basically nearly a decade out of his prime (2.) A completely SHOT Mike Tyson (a total of 18 rounds of boxing over 5 - FIVE years 😃😃) who had to take Lithium and Zoloft (which turned him into a Zombie) as a pre-condition of having a boxing license (and the fight happening) in 2002 😃A fight in which his own trainer Emanuel Steward stated that Tyson was last good 12-Years ago 😃(3.) Vitali Klitschko who took the fight on 10 days notice (Lennox was supposed to fight Kirk Johnson not Vitali) and despite that won every round. Worse still the COWARD ran away and retired at 37 (the same age Holyfield was in 1999 when the Lewis fights happened 😃) despite promising a rematch to Larry Merchant at ringside and in numerous conference calls. All of those so-called "wins" have a huge asterisk because none of them are legit. In fact Lewis own trainer Emanuel Steward admitted that Holyfield beat Lennox comfortably in their Las Vegas rematch (I will happily post the links right here). So (in total) 3 Hall of Famers 1 Completely shot (Tyson) 1 washed up and 37 Years Old who he STILL couldn't beat (Holyfield) and 1 last minute replacement (Vitali Klitschko) who was winning the fight comfortably, and hardly lost a round of boxing in his entire career. And then there was the (Vacant) Paper Titles against washed up drug addicts Oliver McCall who put him to sleep (all kinds of drugs including crack-cocaine) Tony Tucker (cocaine) not to mention the HIV+ Tommy Morrison. Lennox gets no respect because his resume is a joke. Who did he ever legitimately beat?

      Moiz009Moiz009Před dnem
    • @Moiz009 14 years to be precise 1988-2002 (drink, drugs, suicide attempt crashing BMW into a tree) Teddy Atlas says Tysons decline began after the Spinks fight. He'd unified, made his money and his hunger had gone (read his autobiography). The same watershed happened with Tyson Fury when he beat Klitschko, after that his head wasn't in boxing. Tyson even said "Bruno should of kicked my ass" because his conditioning was so bad, wasn't in the gym and partying with too many hangers-on. Had a small scare with Bruno so came in better shape to destroy Alec Stewart because at this point Holyfield had signed to fight him (in his prime unlike Lennox Lewis). Then partying with his entourage and hookers in Japan (no Rooney or Atlas to keep discipline) and Aaron Snowell was too scared of getting sacked and losing money he turned a blind eye and obviously what happened happened against Buster Douglas. But what Lennox Lewis fanboys 'conveniently' forget is that Buster Douglas beat one Oliver McCall (unanimous decision) the fight before Tyson in 1989 😊. But yes, your correct, Lennox's competition was total trash

      LummoxLummoxPřed 2 dny
    • @Lummox I don't personally consider Lennox Lewis the greatest, or would even put him in my Top 5. Anyone that knows boxing and has seen boxing from the 60's and 70's knows Lennox wouldn't stand a chance against the boxers of those times. I believe my response was specifically to someone saying Lewis fought Tyson 10-15 years after Tyson's prime, and I was just correcting them in saying Lennox is one year older than Tyson, which means they were about the same age when they fought. Yes Tyson was out of his prime due to Prison, but was not 10-15 years out of his prime lol. But I agree with you, these folks that think Lennox is one of the greatest heavyweights don't know shit about boxing. While the 90's heavyweights were much better than today's, there's a reason the 60's and 70's is called the Golden Era of Heavyweight boxing. I read another comment on this video where someone said 'Lennox in his prime could take on any boxer in their prime'. It gave me a good laugh. I am sure Lennox would put up great against someone like Foreman in his prime, or let's say Ali from the Cleveland Williams fight. The fact that George Foreman became a champion at 45 against the 90's era of boxers, when George himself admits he could never beat a Prime Ali, Frazier or any of the boxers from the 70's if he tried going back and fighting them at 45, really should be enough to make all these 'kids' shut the fuck up. Really shows you the competition Lennox Lewis faced, which was trash.
